The main objective of a phlebotomist is to draw blood and obtain specimens promptly, efficiently, and safely from patients and clients. Conducting routine and diagnostic testing can be the most accurate way to assess, track, and repair illnesses and diseases. The phlebotomist plays an important role in the safety and well-being of their patients; phlebotomy technicians receive extensive training in the handling of infectious diseases and maintaining a clean and sterile environment.

The Phlebotomy Technician program teaches the student techniques of performing and practicing Electrocardiograms on various ECG machines including computerized and multichannel. Venipuncture techniques are taught using vacutainer tubes, butterfly needles and syringe methods. Students also learn to perform capillary puncture on infants and adults. Specimen handling, centrifuging and laboratory safety also taught throughout the course. MacMillian Institute of Applied Health Sciences Students have the advantage of working within our clinical laboratories and fully simulated practical rooms which offer a professional learning environment.
