Develop an understanding and knowledge of general and clinical nutrition, sport nutrition and physiology. Learn how to relate knowledge of essential nutrients into practical nutritious eating for clients by discovering the techniques of healthy cooking, food demonstration, recipe development and menu planning

Nutritionally assess and analyze menus and recipes integrating financial, health and culinary criteria.

Fitness and Health Promotion Courses

In order to provide complete understanding of the health and fitness industry, courses typically fall into three categories:

  • Theory. Courses in general nutrition, physiology, anatomy, flexibility, range of motion and more will give students a solid understanding of the human body and what it takes to keep it healthy.
  • Exercise and training. Students will learn to conduct fitness assessments, lead group fitness classes and provide personal training to prepare for a number of different positions in the health and fitness industry.
  • Business. Business management, communication, leadership and marketing will be emphasized to give students an understanding of the business side of the industry and also to help them promote their services.

Health matters are often a key concern for many Canadians. Learn about health in ways you can apply to your own life through our Health and Wellness course. Explore the concepts of wellness, holism and normal physical development, and examine aspects of healthy living (such as nutrition, exercise, safety, stress and rest).

Nutrition: Our Nutrition course is a theoretical and practical study of the gastrointestinal system as well as energy sources and uses. Participate in detailed discussions of nutrient functions. Learn basic principles of the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, vitamins and minerals.

Nutrition and Fitness: Diets and dietary supplements are widely used by Canadians. Our Nutrition and Fitness course expands on the fundamentals of nutritional science by focusing on achieving ideal body weight and composition through proper nutrition and exercise. Explore such advanced topics as the science of exercise nutrition and sport-specific nutritional needs.

Nutrition and Special Topics : Our Nutrition and Special Topics course provides an overview of the physiological characteristics and functions of the six basic classes of nutrients. Apply the tools of nutritional science to a detailed health study and explore the development and nutritional origins of diet-related chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, cancer, type-2 diabetes and hypertension.
