OVERVEIW: The Bridging to University Nursing – IEN or also termed as Academic Pathway for Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN)program for internationally educated nurses who must fill theoretical or practical gaps in their learning, as identified by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). This graduate certificate program is also accessible to domestic graduates who require an updated education or practice to reinstate their registration as a nurse with the CNO. The curriculum of this nursing program is based on the CNO Standards of Practice for Nursing and Entry to Practice Competencies for Ontario Registered Nurses. It not only provides a solid foundation for nursing practice, but also focuses on ethics and professional practice, health assessment, skill mastery as well as caring for clients with acute and chronic illness. There is a special focus on caring for individuals, groups and communities in acute care, mental health and community settings, which is a standout element of the program. This program ensures you are prepared for the field by providing you with opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in clinical settings under the direction, facilitation and guidance of faculty. Program is designed to help internationally educated nurses (IEN) meet the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) requirements for safe practice and language fluency so they can practice as registered nurses (RN) in Ontario. This certificate will also help IEN meet the CNO requirements for safe practice, language fluency, and education and competency gaps so they can practice as registered practical nurses (RPN) in Ontario. This nursing certificate emphasizes holistic care, cultural diversity/sensitivity, critical thinking and reflective practice. Courses take a patient-focused, family-centred and inter-professional approach. Current research, best practices and lived experience provide the foundation
